The fifth season of Charmed, an American supernatural drama television series, began airing on September 22, 2002 on The WB. Airing on Sundays at 8 P.M., the season consisted of 23 episodes and concluded its airing on May 11, 2003.
20th Century Fox Home Entertainment released the complete fifth season in a six-disc box set on June 6, 2006.

Season 5 sees Piper deal with being a Charmed One while being pregnant. She struggles between protecting her baby and accepting a more passive role in fighting evil. After the birth and learning that she is the mother of a very important and powerful child, Piper must then face various demonic forces who intend to either kill or capture her son. She also has problems in her marriage to Leo as they both feel the other doesn't appreciate each other's responsibilities and needs.
Phoebe is finally able to let go of Cole emotionally, despite his re-appearance and constant tries to win her back. Her career as a columnist also begins to succeed as Phoebe becomes a local celebrity, while there she meets Jason Dean, the new editor, and begins a new romance with him.
Paige grows into her role as a Charmed One and decides to give up her job to focus on a life of magic. She also learns to accept her whitelighter side as she is given her first charge, who happens to be her biological father Sam. Although they have never met, they eventually get along and Paige learns that her father did love her and is able to embrace the whitelighter side of her that she rejected due to it being her father's side.

Mylie, a mermaid, is prepared to sacrifice her immortality to the sea hag, an evil witch who must deliver eternal life to the skeleton demon Necron, in order to share life with her human lover Craig Wilson, a hunky businessman, and needs him to explicitly express his true love for her, which seems utterly pointless fussing to him, so Mylie turns to hearts column writer Phoebe, who is resuming her career, like Paige who even gets a promotion to social worker. Phoebe had thoroughly prepared her divorce on account of Cole's disappearance, but at the very moment the judge was about to sign, his presence completely undoes her plan. Cole has resumed his job as lawyer, and is determined to help Darryl too, whether his impressive magical powers are wanted or not. While the sisters help Mylie, Phoebe gets transformed into a mermaid herself, increasingly subject to the call of the ocean . |

An evil witch from a fairy tale tries to increase her power by trapping the Charmed Ones in warped versions of classic fairy tales. Phoebe becomes Cinderella, Paige turns into Snow White and Piper becomes Little Red Riding Hood. Meanwhile, Piper attempts to conjure Grams for advice on raising a magical child. Things end up looking bad for everyone: Paige ends up dead from a poisoned apple, Grams and Piper are eaten whole by the Big Bad Wolf and Phoebe is trapped in the carriage at midnight and is so turned into a pumpkin with her date (under the witch's spell) ready to smash her. At the last moment, Cole (who was suspisous of him) intervens and saves Phoebe and takes her pumpkin self back to the manor. At the manor, Leo faces off with the Wolf who tries to escape. As it does so, it suddenly explodes, freeing Piper and Grams, having been blown up from the inside by Piper. Piper uses Little Red Riding Hood's cloak to travel to the Fairy Tale Castle and vanquishes the Evil Witch with a potion Grams made for that purpose. With the Evil Witch vanquished, her magic is reversed and Phoebe and Paige are returned to normal and Piper returns home using Dorthy's Ruby Slippers. There, Cole takes Phoebe back to her date so she can learn to trust herself again and hopefully him someday. | ||||||

The Siren, who preys on married men and their wives, puts Cole under a spell and Piper and Paige must try to figure out how to save Phoebe from certain death. In the meantime, Piper's unborn baby continues messing with her powers causing Piper and Leo's powers to switch. The two must take on each other's roles: Piper takes on Leo's Whitelighter job while Leo takes on her role as a Charmed One. The two have trouble with their roles: Leo has trouble controlling Piper's powers and making spells while Piper has trouble dealing with all of Leo's charges and his ability to sense them, although she can control his power to orb at will fairly well. Ultimately, Phoebe ends up in trouble with the Siren controls Cole and forces him to strangle her. Piper, unable to locate either, is forced to tap into Leo's ability to sense his charge's location in order to find her. With Leo's help she manages to do it and orbs herself and Leo to the Siren's lair. There, Piper tries to save Phoebe from Cole while Leo tries to use Piper's powers to battle the Siren. Leo has difficulty controlling Piper's powers, but after a few tries manages to concentrate and blow the Siren up with them, killing her and releasing Cole. Phoebe is seriously hurt, but with Leo's encouragement, Piper manages to heal her. Cole, realizing what he's done and that Phoebe is right about him, leaves. Later, Piper and Leo apologize, their day in each other's shoes causing them to realize how important and hard each other's jobs are and the baby switches their powers back. Also, the baby stops interfering in Piper's blasting power and she is able to use it fine again. | ||||||

A young boy whose drawings magically come to life is forced to create a drawing that transforms a demon into a super villain. To help the Charmed Ones stop the demon, the boy creates a new drawing that turns Piper, Phoebe and Paige into comic book super heroines. Finally, the villain turns himself into a powerful supervillain and destroys the Charmed Ones super powers. With the help of the boy, the Charmed Ones in turn manage to destroy his super powers and Piper blows him up. | ||||||

With her power of premonition gone, Phoebe seeks advice from a fortune teller and discovers that a demon named Cree is stealing the eyes of Gypsies in an attempt to reverse a curse placed on his father Orin. Phoebe gets her first super premonition that nearly kills her. Meanwhile, the sisters try to protect Ava, a gypsy High Priestess who denies her heritage after her mother died. The sisters vanquish Cree, but Orin gets a pair of eyes that restore his vision and give him incredible powers. In order to change the future in Phoebe's vision, they combine theirs and Ava's powers, using one of their spells to call upon Ava's ancestors to vanquish Orin. Calling upon them works and the spirits of her ancestors appear and block and rebound Orin's attack, killing him. Ava is stunned as one of the spirits who appeared was her mother and she felt her presence. Afterward, Ava goes back to being a doctor but applies it to helping her gypsy people as well. Ava is also made Piper's new doctor. | ||||||

When Barbas, the Demon of Fear, returns to seek revenge on the Piper and Phoebe for banishing him years ago, he manages to trick Paige into making a potion that gives him a paranoid/hallucinating Cole's powers in order to trap the Charmed Ones in the manor and use their own fears against them: Piper's greatest fear is when good things happen, bad things ruin it, Paige's greatest fear is to be trapped and Phoebe's greatest fear is that she's afraid that she's Evil. The consequences devastate Phoebe. Cole decides to take his powers back to save Phoebe and the sisters make a potion to that effect. Using it and throwing it from puddle form like Prue has done, Paige strips Barbas of Cole's powers and returns them to Cole who vanquishes Barbas with an energy ball. Phoebe then rejects Cole again due to his evil powers being back. | ||||||

Phoebe inadvertently opens a tunnel in time by repeatedly saving the life of her new boyfriend Miles, who has been preordained to die. The time tunnel provides a pathway for a warlock from the future named Baccara to steal the Book of Shadows. With the help of his present self he steals the Charmed Ones powers and kills Phoebe and Paige. Piper manages to escape with Leo's help and uses the time rift to travel back in time. There she gets her past self to prevent Phoebe from saving Miles, changing time and setting history onto its right track. | ||||||

When Cole realizes that he must eventually give in to evil, he attacks the Charmed Ones in the hope that they will vanquish him forever and end his suffering. Meanwhile, Paige gets her first charge as a Whitelighter and is shocked when the angry, self-pitying man she is supposed to protect turns out to be the father she never knew. Ultimately the sisters come up with a vanquish for Cole and try it, but Phoebe realizes he's trying to commit suicide and doesn't complete it. Cole, now insane, uses the last potion on himself in an attempt at suicide, but despite a massive explosion that destroys his apartment, he's unscathed. Phoebe falls prey to Jeric, a demon in search of the perfect body to hold the spirit of Isis, his dead lover. To trap the spirit, Jeric mummifies Phoebe's body. Meanwhile, Cole tries to save Phoebe by making a deal with the demon. Ultimately Piper tricks the demon and saves Paige who is able to free Phoebe and banish the spirit. Piper destroys the demon by blowing him up with her molecular combustion power and Cole, now completely insane, leaves promising to win next time. | ||||||

In a twisted attempt to win Phoebe back, Cole joins the Avatars of Force and Power and alters reality to where Paige never reconstituted the Charmed Ones. At that moment, Paige sneezes and orbs into the Whitelighter realm, avoiding the effects of the spell. She arrives in the alternate timeline and finds that her sisters have no knowledge of her existence and she has no powers. While Phoebe is trapped in a loveless marriage with Cole, Piper and Leo have divorced and she has embarked on a new destiny, "demon hunting" in search of Shax–-the Source's Assassin who killed Prue. Paige has to convince Piper and Phoebe that she's their sister and the Power of Three still exists so they can vanquish a desperate Cole. A battle ensues and Piper and Leo are knocked out and Phoebe joins her sisters. Paige recreates the Power of Three by holding hands with her sisters and regains her powers. Using them, she retrieves the vanquishing potion she made to kill the vulnerable Cole (he never gained his invincible powers here and is still Belthazor) and prepares to finally kill him, but is stopped by Phoebe. Cole doesn't try to escape thinking Phoebe loves him too much to kill him, but Phoebe throws the potion herself, finally killing Cole. Cole's death reverts the world to normal and only Paige remembers what happened. Cole is finally vanquished for good, as like Paige he straddled two worlds and was killed in the other world. | ||||||

When residue left from demonic vanquishes has built up in the manor, the sisters lose sleep and it takes over their lives. They call upon the Witch Doctor, whom Leo does not trust. The witch doctor makes a house call to the Charmed Ones but because of the massive amount of demonic energy he believes they are evil. It turns out that Leo was right not to trust him, as he tries to kill the sisters by using voodoo dolls to make them obsess and lead them down various paths of destruction. Piper becomes obsessed with cleaning, Paige becomes obsessed with marrying her ex-boyfriend Glen and Phoebe becomes obsessed with eliminating her work rivals. | ||||||

A demon attacks the Charmed Ones with dream dust he stole from a Sandman, causing their nightmares to come to life, Phoebe dreams about someone trying to kill her, Piper dreams she has a secret and sexy love, Paige feels alone and Leo dreams about something happening to the baby. The sisters must defeat their worries in their dreams, before they are destroyed. Ultimately Phoebe learns that her mysterious attacker is herself, Paige is afraid of being alone due to her secret birth, and Piper's lover is actually Leo. Leo ends up feeling closer to the baby when he feels it kick. The demon shows up expecting to have their nightmare's backing him up and is shocked to see that they're not there. Piper, annoyed with him, simply blows him up. | ||||||

Piper is due in six weeks and has to be on bed rest because of her high blood pressure. Phoebe, Paige and Leo realize that all magic has stopped without realizing that it has been foretold in the prophecy of the twice-blessed child, whom up until the time of its birth, magic will lay dormant. A sorcerer knows of this, and he plans to kill the sisters so he can raise Piper's baby as a powerful force of evil, also Phoebe and Paige discover that Victor's new wife, Doris, is a demon who plans to aide the sorcerer in the kidnapping of Piper's baby. When Piper attempts to escape, she goes into labor. Phoebe and Paige arrive just in time and vanquish Doris and the sorcerer. Leo soon shows up and Piper gives birth their baby which, to the surprise of everyone, turns out to be a boy in a swirl of orbs. Piper holds her son as everyone else looks on. | ||||||

Everyone is having a hard time finding a name for the baby, especially a boy's name that starts with a P. Leo tries out Peter while Phoebe tries out Potter in a reference to Harry Potter. Leo states his son's last name is going to be Halliwell instead of Wyatt because good magic respects it while evil fears it. When the baby is nearly kidnapped by demons, Paige goes undercover to track down the kidnappers at a demonic black market, but is captured before she can vanquish them. Piper and Phoebe must save her before she has her energy drained out of her. Piper and Phoebe go to rescue Paige while Leo watches the baby. While they are gone, the demons attempt to kidnap the baby again, but Leo throws himself into the baby's force field and shields his body with his own, draining his energy. The demons are vanquished soon after and everyone is safe. Piper then tells everyone she has decided on a name for the baby and tells them that the baby will have the middle name of Matthew in honor of Paige because of her determination to protect him and risking her life to do it. She then says that the baby's first name will be Wyatt in honor of Leo for also risking his life to protect him. Everyone agrees on the name and Piper holds the baby and declares his name to be Wyatt Matthew Halliwell. | ||||||

However, the spell goes awry and Phoebe and Paige are sent back in time to relive Piper's memories. They encounter an evil warlock stuck with them who is trying to kill their old cat Kit. After the warlock kills her in the past, the future changes in an unknown manner, but Phoebe and Paige get Piper to revisit the memory so they can change things. They stop the warlock and kill him, saving Kit who they realize was their familiar and Piper reverses the spell, setting them free. | ||||||

When Grams is summoned to call on the Halliwell matriarchs for baby Wyatt's wiccaning, she and the charmed ones fall prey to the Necromancer demon, played by Chris Sarandon. Also called "Armand" by Grams, he has returned from the spirit realm seeking to absorb the Halliwell magical spirits. The sisters also discover secrets about Grams' past love-life with Armand. Meanwhile Paige casts a truth spell on Nate to tell him she's a witch and finds out about his secret wife and two children. It is revealed that Grams was in a relationship with the Necromancer and loved him, but she ultimately banished him to the spirit world. The Necromancer wants to absorb all of the Halliwell matriarchs' power so he and Grams can come back to life, in love and immortal. The girls cast the truth spell on Grams, and it breaks the Necromancer's hold over her, allowing her to vanquish him with the ghost-vanquishing spell. The spell works because Gram's is a ghost, and only a ghost can make it work. With the Necromancer gone, she finally accepts Wyatt, apologizes to Piper and tells the girls Wyatt looks like their grandfather, who was in her words "a good man". | ||||||

Transformed into powerful goddesses, the Charmed Ones must learn to control their powers while at the same time battle the Titans of myth before they take over earth. However, Piper's life is turned upside-down when Leo accepts his call to become an Elder. Piper's loss and anger consumes her, allowing the Charmed Ones to destroy the Titans but at the expense of losing Leo, Chris is made the Charmed Ones new whitelighter. In this episode, Phoebe becomes the Goddess of Love, Paige the Goddess of War and Piper the Goddess of Earth – the most powerful of the three witch-goddesses. Finally in the end, Piper vanquishes the Titans by dropping them into a pit of lava as their powers don't work on her. Her anger at Leo leaving to be an Elder causes her to take her anger out on the world, but her sisters get through to her and Leo takes away her pain so she can live on. Chris is appointed to be their new Whitelighter and he does something to Leo, while everyone worries about how well Piper is taking it. |
